Michael Beckette inducted into the Canadian Mortgage Hall of Fame

The Mortgage Alliance Company of Canada is pleased to announce that Michael Beckette, President and C.E.O. was recently inducted into the Canadian Mortgage Hall of Fame.

The Canadian Mortgage Hall of Fame was created to recognize and honour mortgage industry leaders whose achievements and service have contributed to the success of the Canadian mortgage industry. Inductees to the Mortgage Hall of Fame have provided leadership, vision and inspiration in their profession and strive to make a difference to enhance industry standards. The 2011 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place on Sunday, November 20 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Mortgage Alliance first opened its doors in 1998, which included Michael and his partners and Quebec broker firm, Multi-Pret Hypotheques. The company became the fastest growing mortgage broker in Canadian history garnering many awards and industry accolades over the past thirteen years.

Access To More Lenders Through The Mortgage Alliance VIP Lender Hub

It would appear as though April has not only brought with it warmer weather but it’s heated up the already hot VIP Lender Hub at Mortgage Alliance.

Since it began, the VIP Hub has provided the Mortgage Alliance Network with access to top-tier service and incentives from over 12 major lenders. And the strategy seems to be working well.

During the month of April alone, the National VIP Lender Hub reviewed 398 files, submitted 329 of those files totaling over $75,000,000.00 in mortgage volume. This is an astounding amount of mortgage origination through one source.

New Mortgage Alliance Brand Campaign Reaching New Heights

By the time the new MAC radio campaign concludes in early May- Over 50% of the Canadian population between the ages of 24-54 years of age will have heard it….multiple times!

Supported with over 50 radio stations across the country in key markets, the campaign will reach the all-important target groups comprised of first time home buyers, mortgage renewers, home renovators and debt consolidators.

The campaign is using multiple radio executions to deliver a variety of key consumer-driven messages (to showcase the company’s depth of products and services) ranging from “One-Stop Shopping”, to “Pre-empting Interest Rate Forecasts” , “Reducing Household debt” to “the Right & Smart Mortgage Solutions.”

Mortgage Alliance Launches New Season of MAC TV

The largely popular live broadcast from the Mortgage Alliance Head Office every Monday is beginning its 3rd season starting on Monday September 13th. Every week over 1,000 Mortgage Alliance members tune in to the live broadcast that features a myriad of guests ranging from Lenders, Industry Experts, Department Heads and Broker Panels.

But this season will mark a “first” as MAC TV will be offered to consumers directly. Consumers will be able to tune into special broadcasts that have been created to help educate consumers about the advantages and benefits of working with a mortgage professional.

These special broadcasts will be interactive and will allow consumers to send specific questions to the host, Michael Beckette, President & C.E.O. of Mortgage Alliance with respective responses being delivered live during the broadcast.

Consumers have questions, and MAC TV will be there to help them gather the information and answers their looking for.

MAC Rally of Hope Raises Almost $90,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

From Port Moody British Columbia on July 11th to arriving at St. John’s Newfoundland on July 25th, the MAC Rally of Hope (supporting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation) travelled over 7,500 kilometers, crossed through 6 time zones and touched the lives of thousands of Canadians and raised an astonishing $88,000.00!!!

Even before the July 11th launch date, the MAC Rally Of Hope radio advertising could be heard across the country on over 40 radio stations for more than 3 weeks. That’s close to $250,000 worth of free radio advertising support. That doesn’t even include all the Public Service Announcement ads and media coverage that was created by Mortgage Alliance members and CBCF representatives who supported this national event. Consumers heard that that the Mortgage Alliance Family cares about the same things they care about.

But this was no “Easy Rider’s” experience.

The first parade of riders that left the West Coast faced a myriad of weather patterns ranging from bitterly cold temperatures to endless down pours of rain to the unthinkable hail-the-size-of-golf-balls predicament.

However, with their steadfast courage and the support of their colleagues, friends and strangers who inspired the group with their stories of Breast Cancer survival – the band of bikers persevered.

But most of all, the 2010 MAC Rally of Hope demonstrated the passion and commitment of the Mortgage Alliance network from coast-to-coast who stood together to support a worthy cause and it is because of YOU that it was a thunderous success.

Special thanks must be extended to the riders who participated in the Rally and all the Mortgage Alliance team members who supported the cause by conducting their own special events in their communities.  Your fund-raising efforts made ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!! .

Preparations are already in the works for next year’s Mortgage Alliance MAC Rally of Hope, supporting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, starting on July 17th 2011 in Vancouver B.C..

Mom on Maternity Leave Get’s $100,000 phone call!

On the afternoon of Monday April 12th, Amber Boucher was busy taking care of the family’s four children in their Cambridge, Ontario home when the phone rang. What Amber didn’t know was this phone call would be a life-changing experience that would leave her family $100,000 richer!

On the other end of the line was Louie Bettio, Brand Champion of Mortgage Alliance of Canada calling the Boucher family to advise them that their name had been randomly selected from the Mortgage Alliance $100,000 Minimize Your Mortgage Sweepstakes database comprised of clients who purchased a mortgage through a Mortgage Alliance Professional in 2009.

Amber and Jeff Boucher had purchased a mortgage in 2009 from Mortgage Alliance, Maximum Results Financial Services, located in Cambridge, ON.  Having seen posters in the office promoting the $100,000 Minimize Your Mortgage Sweepstakes, the couple completed their transaction with Karen and Walter Monteiro (owners of Mortgage Alliance, Maximum Results) and thought nothing more of it….until Monday April 12th, 2010.  Amber and Jeff are actually repeat clients of the Monteiros.

MAC Rally of Hope Supporting Breast Cancer Research

On Sunday July 11th, the 2010 MAC Rally of Hope will depart from Vancouver British Columbia and make it’s way across Canada to it’s final destination arriving in St. John’s Newfoundland on Sunday July 25th 

This motorcycle event is open to all riders in Canada.

Riders can join for a specific segment of the ride or participate in entire the coast‐to‐coast MAC rally of Hope ride.

This special event has been created to raise awareness and funds in support of Breast Cancer research….a disease that affects thousands of women, men and families every year in Canada.

This is the second fund raising event for the Mortgage Alliance Company of Canada (MAC) supporting breast cancer research. In 2008, the MAC Ride raised over $75,000 dollars in support of breast cancer research and this year the company is hoping to surpass that achievement.

Riders who wish to join this event have two options for raising donations:

  1. Riders who raise a minimum of $250 in donations can join for any one specific segment of the ride
  2. Riders who generate a minimum of $3,000 in donations can ride across Canada in the National MAC Rally Ride of Hope.

Mortgage brokers handling growing number of deals

When Hamilton, Ont., residents and partners Kathy Funke and Grant Bivol wanted to purchase an investment residential property in 2000, they did what most Canadians do when it’s time to borrow. They headed to the bank branches in their area.

They shopped around a bit, made lots of phone calls, compared mortgage conditions and rates and then signed.

“That was our first experience. We didn’t really know where to start. And I didn’t know anything about mortgage brokers at that time. The bank seemed like the obvious place to start,” said Kathy Funke, 45.

But in retrospect, they found the whole experience exhausting.

“During our first experience we tried to shop around. The banks discouraged that. They gave us some story that because we had a mortgage being approved and when another bank does the same thing it shows that another mortgage is being approved,” said Ms. Funke.

Three years later when they were shopping for another house, they had a different strategy.

“We didn’t even go to the bank then…We were just so frustrated from the last experience that we didn’t want to run around to the banks. We figured we couldn’t do any worse so we just put ourselves in the broker’s hands and let her do the shopping around for us. We use insurance brokers for insurance, why wouldn’t we use a mortgage broker?” said Ms. Funke.

Grant and Kathy are part of a growing number of Canadians foregoing the traditional walk into the bank branch and instead sitting down with the local mortgage broker.

This growth is a core finding of Maritz Research Canada, which studied the broker industry on behalf of the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals (CAAMP)

“In the past, the first or only place a person would go when looking for a mortgage was to their local bank, however more and more Canadians are now seeking out the services of Mortgage Brokers to help them navigate the biggest purchase of their lives,” concludes study author Rob Daniel, managing director, Maritz Research Canada.

The Maritz Research concluded that the mortgage brokerage channel handled 23% of all mortgage activity in 2008. The broker channel is particularly strong in Western Canada (34% of all activity in Alberta, 27% in British Columbia). In addition, women are more likely than men to deal with mortgage brokers. (26% vs. 20%).

Young Canadians are much more likely to consult with and deal with brokers than their older counterparts; Brokers represent 28% of mortgage activity among 18-34 year olds, 24% among 35-54 year olds, and just 17% among those 55 and older.

A mortgage broker works as a conduit between the buyer and the lender. In many cases, the mortgage broker is informally representing lending institutions. The banks have used brokers to outsource the job of finding and qualifying borrowers.

Grant and Kathy felt they got a better interest rate than the banks offered and there were no brokerage fees. And they wanted a mortgage that offered an annual pay down of 20% with no penalty on the balance outstanding.

Maritz Research Canada concluded that the average Canadian who renewed or renegotiated through a broker saw their interest rate reduced by an average of 125 points, compared with 114 among those who dealt directly with a bank or credit union.

For Toronto resident Leanne Bernardo, the mortgage broker not only represented a one-stop shop, it provided a number of “add-ons.” These included a line of credit, a life insurance option, annual and monthly lump sum payment options without penalty and weekly interest rate alerts. The variable interest rate selected was comparable to what the banks offered.

“We just wanted to have a number of different options presented to us and we felt that going through a broker would give us an unbiased opinion of different options. Otherwise we would have gone to three or four different banks to get our options. It was great for us in terms of time efficiency,” says Ms. Bernardo.

According to one banking insider, the banks are chilly about mortgage brokers because they make it a more competitive market in which interest rate competition takes away the ability of the local branch to hold firm on posted rates.

As for Grant Bivol and Kathy Funke, they’re making it a habit. They currently have two rental properties and live in a third house. But it doesn’t look like they are going to stop there. They have another home purchase going through in April.

“We wouldn’t even consider not using a mortgage broker. If it isn’t broke you don’t fix it,” says Kathy Funke.

Couple Looking for Green Acres Gets $100,000 worth of Green!!!

Mr. Stephen Beauchamp and Mrs. Pavlina Tomova simply wanted a more peaceful and serene lifestyle. One that included acres and acres of land and a cozy country-style home. A dream that many of us share pining for a more “slow-lane” kind of existence- especially these days.

Mortgage Alliance Dominates Brokerage Industry

As forecast, Mortgage Alliance was #1 for April with over $1.8 billion in mortgage submissions.

April was indeed a great month for Canada’s largest Mortgage broker company and its mortgage professionals – a remarkable feat of strength given current economic conditions and a stagnant real estate market.

  • This spring, Mortgage Alliance launched the largest brand campaign in Canadian mortgage brokerage history reaching over 50% of the population between the ages of 25-54 years of age with it’s radio messages.

Mortgage Alliance Awards First Franchise on ‘The Rock’

Mortgage Alliance Signs First Franchise Agreement

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario (December 9, 2004) – Mortgage Alliance Franchising Inc. announced today its first franchise agreement, with Cambridge firm Maximum Results Realty Services Inc. Owned by Karen and Walter Monteiro, the newly formed Mortgage Alliance Maximum Results Realty will operate out of it location at 800 Franklin Blvd, in Cambridge, with a Grand Opening in 2005.

New Corporate Structure At Mortgage Alliance

TORONTO, Ontario (August 31, 2004) – Today, Mortgage Alliance (MAC) and sister company Multi-Prêts Hypothèques are proud to announce a major corporate restructuring, creating an umbrella company to oversee the growing subsidiaries of the company. This umbrella company will be called Groupe MAC/MPH Group.

There are currently four subsidiaries which will fall under the management of the newly created Groupe MAC/MPH Group. These are The Mortgage Alliance Company of Canada, Multi-Prêts Hypothèques, Multi-Prêts SAS France and Mortgage Alliance Franchising Inc.

With these structural changes, the board of directors of Groupe MAC/MPH Group is proud to announce the nomination of Pierre Fournier as Chairman of the Board and CEO for Groupe MAC/MPH Group. Michael Beckette, previously Executive Vice President of MAC, will now be the President of The Mortgage Alliance Company of Canada and President of Mortgage Alliance Franchising Inc. Pierre Martel will be promoted from his role as Executive Vice President to President of Multi-Prêts Hypothèques in Quebec. Mortgage Alliance Expands with New Franchising Opportunities
